2008 Australian National MTB Championships

The Australian Mountain Bike National Championships showcase the best off road riding in Australia across all disciplines. Be it the lungbusting challenge of Rav4 V6 Cross Country, elbow to elbow action of the Kluger XC Short Course or the HiLux 4X, the control and tooth-loosening danger of the Toyota trials or the sheer adrenaline buzz of the Maxxis Downhill, Australian riders can hold their heads up in the company of any in the world.

And the world is coming. Stromlo Forest Park will host the world's best riders not only at the World Cup round in August 2008 – but also the UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships in September 2009. The World's are mountain biking's biggest party and it's coming to Canberra. Australia's finest are keen to make their mark and impress selectors in the lead up so expect competition to be frenetic and unrelenting as the Australian National Mountain Bike Championships unfold around the Australia Day Weekend.

Growth at Stromlo

photo

Stromlo Forest Park continues to go from strength to strength. Since last year's National Championships not only has the second stage of trails been built, bringing the total of XC options close to 50km, but the 4-cross hill has been expanded and grassed and the downhill course has undergone some 16 changes to improve its flow.

Stromlo Forest Park hosted the Scott 24 hour race in October and riders were impressed with the absence of dust thanks to some good autumn rains. Further rain right through spring has done much not only to encourage the growth of dust suppressing ground cover throughout the venue, it's also given the many trees planted across the entire mountain a huge drink to get them out of the ground and spreading their canopy wide as summer kicks in.

See the state of growth as at Dec 1.
